rules

♡ you MUST submit through DMs because my notifications don’t always work and replies don’t always show (thanks twitter) so it’ll be much easier♡ if i say no, that means no.
♡ ableism will NOT be tolerated. i will not engage if i see an ableist remark and others shouldn’t either. just block and move on, it’s not worth your time
♡ this is specifically for characters with ADHD & if a character has another neurodivergencies (whether canon, coded or hc) and is posted here that does not mean it is erased. this account is ADHD focused.
♡ please don’t submit characters just because “haha energetic and random xD,” ADHD is a complex disorder that affects emotion, attention span, energy levels, and motivation. i’m not saying you need to be an expert, but you also shouldn’t go with stereotypes.

“why does adhd need a flag?”

This is a question I’ve been asked a few times, with varying degrees of understanding, so I thought I’d explain here :)Growing up with ADHD is tough. It was always treated as something to hate about myself, and I still struggle with that mentality, even after a lot of help with it in therapy. Pride flags exist for very similar reasons: the LGBTQ+ has a long history of being demonized & being a member is often treated as something to hate about oneself. However, if someone can take that history of hatred and trauma and turn it into something one has survived and can be proud of, that is something to take pride in. And I’ve seen a lot of other people who have ADHD explain how they were mistreated for it, just like myself.I think that it’s important for us to feel pride in ourselves, as hard as it can be sometimes. And if you need a reason to not hate your ADHD, I’m also still working on it. But my therapist has been helping me accept that it’s not a good thing, or a bad thing, it’s just a thing that I need to accept as a part of myself. It comes with lots of positives and negatives. You just need to figure out which are which for yourself.
